چکیده

Purified human transferrin. when saturated with iron or zinc, decreased the production of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factors (GM-CSF) by human T lymphocytes that had been stimulated by phytohemagglutin or concanavalin-A. The iron-saturated transferrin was more active than the zinc-saturated transferrin. This effect was not seen for copper-saturated transferrin or for apotransferrin. and the inhibitory effect was seen whether production of GM-CSF occurred in the absence or presence of serum. If the lymphocytes were pretreated with monoclonal antibody against transferrin receptors. no suppressive effect with transferrin was seen. Transferrin did not have a direct effect on the granulocyte-macrophage colony

Cytotoxic T-cell clones derived from pluripotent stem cells (CFU-GEMM) of patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Pluripotent stem cells (CFU-GEMM) give rise to multilineage hemopoietic colonies in culture. The cellular composition revealed that mixed colonies contain cells of different myeloid lineages and mononuclear cells with T-cell surface antigens. T lymphocytes of primary colonies and replated secondary clones from 5 patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (stage I--II) were identified by their reaction wi...

T lymphocytes of the normal human cornea.

Lymphocytes in the periphery of the normal human cornea are identified as being only T lymphocytes by immunohistochemical methods. OKT-4 positive cells (T-helper/inducer lymphocytes) and OKT-8 positive cells (T-suppressor/cytotoxic lymphocytes) are found in similar numbers in most of the corneas examined. OKT-4 positive cells in the cornea present a risk of transferring HTLV-III (HIV) by cornea...

Studies in homosexual patients with and without lymphadenopathy. Relationships to the acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

We studied the immunologic function of 19 sexually active homosexual men, ten of whom had persistent lymphadenopathy. Analysis of mononuclear cell populations distinguished homosexuals from heterosexual controls since, as a group, homosexuals had increased percentages of natural killer cells (Leu 7+), decreased helper-inducer T lymphocytes (OKT-4+), increased suppressor/cytotoxic (OKT-8+) T lym...

T cells and probably B cells arise from the malignant clone in chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Bone marrow cells from a patient with Ph' positive chronic myelogenous leukemia in chronic phase were cultured for multilineage hematopoietic colonies (CFU-GEMMT), erythroid bursts, and granulocytic colonies. With CFU-GEMMT colonies, T lymphocytes were identified by reaction with monoclonal antibodies Leu-5 and OKT-3; B cells were identified by reaction with B1. All CFU-GEMMT colonies examined ...
